stage. >> are you saying governor romney lied or was dishonest? >> yes he was dishonest. when he said he didn't propose 5 million in tax cuts he was dishonest. he said to 70 million americans i will repeal obama care but i will still be able to cover people with preexisting conditions. 10 minutes after the debate he sent someone in he really didn't mean that. he said i want more teachers. i love teachers. it was a few weeks ago he chastised the president saying we don't need more teachers we don't need more government. yes i would say he was dishonest? >> would you go so far as he lied? >> i am saying he was dishonest with his answers. you can take that however you want. >> the romney campaign issuing their own attacks on the performance. gillespie said romney delivered

facts the president couldn't. >> the problem we have is the debate performance wasn't a matter of style it was a matter of substance. romney laid out a plan for turning this economy around and getting things moving again. he had a fact based critique of president obama's failed policies that the president was unable to respond to. and today and since then the obama campaign they remind me a little bit of a 7-year-old losing a checker game instead of being frustrated at the outcome they sweep the board off the table. the fact is if president obama is re-elected as governor romney pulled out we are going to have continued chronically high unemployment and we are going to have continued massive staff instead of moving toward a budget. healthcare premium also continue to rise 20 million americans will lose their employer based health insurance on obama care

a>> good morning to you. it is quarter past the hour. california governor jerry brown is taking drastic steps to erase record high gas prices in his state. he has asked the states' pollution board to allow gas stations to start selling their winter blend gasoline at an earlier date in order to increase supplies. sunday the averaged price of gasoline in california hit a record of $4.65 a gallon. many were selling it for more than $5.

low which is mint has died at the age of 85. she worked with meryl streep, marilyn monroe and also whitney houston. smith passed away from a brain hemorrhage after an accidental fall. meningitis outbreak is getting worse this morning. there are now more than 90 cases across nine states. so far 7 people have died. marianne rafferty has the latest on this deadly outbreak. >> good morning heather and ainsley. more news from the cdc.gov as cases of fungal meningitis are on the rise and more people are being warned to look for symptoms. it has claimed the lives of at least 7 people. it is believed to have originated from a compounding center in massachusetts. there are 91 confirmed cases of fungal meningitis. >> we are investigating an unusual outbreak of meningitis. >> more than 17,000 vials of the

contaminated steroid shipped out to nearly 100 facilities in 23 states. despite the numbers only a select portion of the population may be infected. >> if you got any kind of steroid injection epidural you need to be aware of this. >> the steroid injection she received for back pain may have been con dam nated. now she is nervously anticipating the outcome of her test result. >> i had a severe headache i couldn't get up out of bed and it hasn't gone away yet. worried from day-to-day. like today it's nerve-racking. >> meningitis is treatable if it is caught early. >> health experts say you should be on the lookout for warning signs. >> symptoms they are experiencing are those that we see in cases of meningitis such as fever, headache, sometimes neck stiffness. we have seen in a few patients signs and symptoms of stroke slurred speech, dizziness, difficulty walking, sudden

will know why. if congress passing bills to help the average american or just themselves. a "washington post" study raising serious concerns and discussions about recent legislation. it found 73 law americas backing bills that could benefit themselves or their relatives. the practice is legal it's allowed under ethics rules as long as the lawmakers aren't the soul beneficiary. the new york post reporting jp morgan chase bailed out the chairman of the democratic congressional campaign committee and for gave 93,000 dollars he still owed on his house. israel and his wife are divorcing trying to sell the home. republicans now want an investigation. we know about this unemployment is dropping from 8.1 percent to 7.8 percent in the month of september. this is something that democrats really spent the weekend celebrating. republicans say this is nothing to cheer about. listen to both sides.

>> i understand for someone who supports governor romney it was disappointing that the economy is improving that that number take down. for the country it was very good news. what it kwdoes is rob governor romney. >> this economy is not doing well. the fact that you have a white house celebrating an unemployment rate of 7.8 percent with 23 million americans you tell out of work or under employed or unemployed tells you a lot about the failure of this administration's policies. >> let's try to put politics aside for just a minute. here's what we want to know. where the j are the jobs number where they should be? are they? >> the government will tell you that. there are two numbers everybody talks about. we pay attention to the household survey number 7.8 percent. that gone by phone calling people. they call 60,000 people and say are you working? if you look at the number a large number of the people who said i am working are working

part-time. even the white house would sthais not good. >> do we have any way of knowing whether or not these people are choose to go powork part-time ty want to work part-time? >> there is a line indicating the people do want to work part-time. if you were to factor in the people who want to work part-time the people who dropped out of the work force to what the real unemployment rate would be it would be 14.7 percent. >> that's the real unemployment rate under employed a. >> we are talking about 23 million americans who want to work or are working part-time or have given up. >> how many jobs should we be creating every month? >> that's the number we should be paying attention to that's reported in the labor department every month. you need more than 200,000 jobs created every month to put people back to work and accounting for people coming out of high school going into college creating the work force. >> we are 100,000 jobs short per

months just to get us back to where we were. >> that's the bottom line. >> i know you talked to a lot of ceo and small business owners what do they say is the hang up. >> first the fiscal clip. hate the term. until congress gets the act together and deals with the fiscal problems businesses are setting out keeping 2 trillion off to the side. that's money they could be using to hire people to expand in what would be a perfect time to capture market share but they are not. they are sticking it out. >> it's really ane volumes. the labor force participation rate. the number of americans who are working right now is 63 percent. why is that significant? >> it is significant because 63.6 percent of the actual number is the lowest it has been since 1981. in 81 it was 63.5 percent. this is 30 years we have gone backwards. we need to be putting people to work. the labor participation late at 63.6 percent not good.

an area known for drug smuggling. more problems for the tsa at newark international airport. according to a new report 80 percent of the tsa screeners did pat downs did them incorrectly even failing to confiscate banned items from the bags. 75 percent of the time. a team of under cover tsa agents discovered these security lapses. the agency says it will use the report to improve procedures at airports nationwide. a day of joy turns into a day of tragedy after a deadly brawl breaks out during a wedding celebration. it happened in philadelphia. >> guests from two different wedding receptions were partying at a hotel bar and began fighting. a 57-year-old man dropped dead of a heart attack believed to be the uncle of one of the brides. three people facing charges for
